Living the Good Life Blog Has Moved

The time has come to do some Spring cleaning and here at Good Life Organizing that means a new and improved website and a new home for the Living the Good Life Blog. In an attempt to be more efficient the new website will host my blog instead of having a separate one on Blogger.  I've loved using Blogger but it's time to move on to bigger and better things.  So please visit the blog at http://goodlifeorganizing.net/blog-2/ .  Hope to see you there!!

GOODLIFEORGANIZING.NET is New and Improved!

Creating a new website is a bit like having a child. You have great ideas and dreams and then it takes a long time for it be ready to come into the world.  That's is what I have been doing this Spring (giving birth to a website, not a child!). Working with Shalon Ironroad of Bacon Business Management I have crafted a new and improved website that truly highlights my personality and my business.

Some of the newest highlights include:

  • An FAQ page to answer your burring questions about organizing and working with a Professional Organizer,
  • The Living the Good Life blog is now found directly on my website, and
  • You now have easy access to my videos that give helpful tips and hints about organizing your home and life.

So please stop by, browse around and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Going Screen-Free: Put Down that Screen and Walk Away

Does anyone else out there feel like there are just too many digital distractions in our lives today? Lately I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the technology and how much it has taken over our lives, especially our leisure time. I’ve decided that I need screen diet! And lo and behold, May 5 -11 is Screen-Free week !

The idea of going completely screen-free for 7 days feels very daunting so I’ve decided to take the good-is-good enough approach (as opposed to doing it perfectly) and go on a screen diet for this week. Here are my personal rules:
  1. Limit checking email to twice a day.
  2. No Facebook (and other social media) except for work and limit the time spent for work.
  3. No TV except my exercise videos.
  4. Listening to music or reading a book on my device is ok, but as soon as I finish the book I am reading I am going to switch to a “real” book”.
  5. Texting is ok as long as it isn’t excessive.
  6. If I slip and go against any of my rules, I’ll give myself a break and move forward. It’s Day 1 and I’ve already slipped up but I’ve promised myself tomorrow will be better!
What I’m hoping to accomplish is to give my eyes and mind a break from the constant stimulation see what else I can get done and spend some more quality time with my family.  My 11 year old son is trying the screen diet as well, although as a video game lover, he’s already having a hard time resisting. My 13 year old daughter just said “Good luck with that” and rolled her eyes when I asked her if she wanted to join us. Oh, well, I tried.

So who wants to join in? Even if it is just for an hour, a day or a couple of days, let’s disconnect and enjoy some screen-free time!  See you on May 12th!!

Spring Fling Day 32: Negativity

For our last fling I would like you to get rid of a negativity - negative self-talk, negative reactions to things you can’t control, negative feelings. When you find yourself thinking or saying something negative, stop yourself. Immediately think the opposite of the negative thought. For example if you say “I can’t believe I forgot the doctor’s appointment again!”, stop and say “I missed the doctor’s appointment but I’ll remember next time.” Sometimes just putting a little positivity into your life can make a big difference. I think you are all worth lots and lots of positive thoughts!

Fling away!
